Marching Band Fair Share:

What Is the Marching Band Fair Share?

The fair share is each student's contribution toward the overall cost of participating in the marching band program. While our school and district provide valuable support, they do not cover all of the expenses required to operate a successful marching band.

Fair share help fund many of the essential costs that directly benefit every student throughout the season, including:

  • Music and drill design
  • Instruction from specialized marching, music, and visual staff
  • Competition entry fees
  • Equipment maintenance and repairs
  • Props and show materials
  • Uniform maintenance and replacement
  • Show licensing and performance rights
  • Student meals and water at select events
  • Other operational expenses necessary to provide a safe, educational, and competitive experience

The Fair share helps ensure that every student has access to quality instruction, equipment, and performance opportunities. It is important to understand that the fair share does not generate a profit for the band. Instead, it offsets only a portion of the actual cost of operating the program. In most cases, the true cost of participation is significantly higher than the amount families are asked to pay.

Fundraising opportunities are offered throughout the year to help families reduce or offset their fair share. Additionally, the band relies heavily on donations, sponsorships, grants, and the support of our Band Booster organization to bridge the gap between fair share and the actual cost of providing a high-quality marching band experience.

Your investment in the fair share directly supports your student's growth, education, and opportunities while helping our entire band program continue to thrive.

Forever Gear:

Forever gear is separate from your official marching band uniform and is yours to keep after your time in the program.

Each student is required to have the following Forever Gear:

  • SM purple shirt
  • SM black shorts
  • Viper marching shoes
  • Tall black socks

Students will wear their Forever Gear underneath their marching band uniform for:

  • Friday night football games
  • School assemblies
  • Marching band competitions (your show shirt may be worn in place of the purple SM shirt at competitions)
  • Storming the Halls

*Depending on the instrument your student plays, they will also need marching gloves or wristbands as part of their performance uniform.
